Keeping Your New Year’s Resolution

Happy New Year! Have you made a resolution for the upcoming year? The Prostate 8 recommendations provide some guidelines for resolutions that will promote prostate health. But making a resolution is easy—the hard part is keeping it! Here are some guidelines for setting and achieving your goals for this year.

Set attainable goals:
When thinking of your resolutions, make sure they are concrete and achievable. A drastic change will be harder to implement, which could leave you feeling discouraged if you are not making progress. Try setting a time limit and breaking a goal into smaller pieces: For example, increase exercise by a few minutes each week instead of trying to increase it dramatically in just a few days.

Mark your calendar:
Take some time to add your goal into your day-to-day schedule. If you want to exercise more, for example, pick a time when you can work out every day, and stick to your plan. Once you settle into a routine, it will be easier to keep your goal! You could even set reminders on your phone—this way, you won’t forget to put on your Fitbit or eat your daily serving of cruciferous vegetables.

Get your friends and family involved:
Tell your friends and family members about your resolution, so they can check in on your progress and encourage you. Or, better yet, partner up with someone and create a shared resolution—you can motivate each other to succeed.

Celebrate your successes:

Make sure to reward yourself when you have made progress toward your goal. Remember that even small exercise and diet changes can have a big impact on your health—with some time and dedication, you’ll be able to achieve your goals. Here’s to a great 2016!
